The Senkichi Osaka Shakuri Kanna/ Osaka Plow Plane 18mm is used primarily in western Japan, around Osaka, these planes cut the grooves to hold the top rails of shōji. The stepped block guides the depth. The blade in this type of plane is wedged in place by the chipbreaker.

All Japanese planes, arrive in New Zealand with a small amount of tuning yet to be done. This allows end users to tune their plane for use in the conditions it will be continually used in, eliminating the problem of wood movement between climates.
